Part 2 - Hydrolysis of 4-nitroacetanilide: Crude 4-nitroacetanilide is transferred to a round-bottom flask. 60 mL of water is added and swirled until the mixture becomes a slurry. Add 15 mL of concentrated HCl and two boiling chips. Equip the flask with a condenser and heat the mixture gently until all the solid material is in solution. Cool the flask and pour the solution of 4-nitroaniline hydrochloride into a beaker and crushed ice. Liberate 4-nitroaniline hydrochloride by slowly adding concentrated ammonia.
