Tom believes that bad people are punished and good people are rewarded. When he reads in the paper that a man was beaten and robbed when taking money out of an ATM at 1 a.m, he blames the victim, thinking to himself that the man that was attacked "must have deserved it." Tom is demonstrating the JUST-WORLD HYPOTHESIS.
