Thomas Jefferson called The Federalist Papers "the best commentary on the principles of government, which was ever written." And remember this coming from the principal author of the Declaration of Independence. In Federalist #10, James Madison writes: "The smaller the society, the fewer probably will be the distinct parties and interests composing it,...the more easily will they concert and execute their plans of oppression...Extend the sphere, and you take in a greater variety of parties and interests; you make it less probable that a majority of the whole will...invade the rights of other citizens." Knowing that our founders feared a "tyranny of the majority," research the Recession of 2008. One of the interesting things about the bailout and the recession is that two very different movements sprung out of them, the Tea Party and Occupy Wall Street. In what ways were these groups similar? Different? Please look at both their issues and their tactics as well.
