Solve the system of equations. If the system has no solution, say that it is inconsistent. Graph the lines of the system: 4x - 8y = 4 15x + 10y = 5 Select the correct choice below and, if necessary, fill in any answer boxes within your choice. A. The solution is x = and y = . (Type integers or simplified fractions.) B. There are infinitely many solutions. Using ordered pairs, they can be expressed as {(x,y) | x = , y is any real number}. (Simplify your answer. Type an expression using y as the variable as needed.) C. The system is inconsistent.

Solve the system by the addition method: 2x + 4y = 5 6x + 12y = 15 Select the correct choice below and, if necessary, fill in the answer box within your choice. A. There is exactly one solution. The solution set is { }. (Simplify your answer. Type an ordered pair.) B. There are infinitely many solutions. The solution set is {(x,y) | 2x + 4y = 5} or {(x,y) | 6x + 12y = 15}. C. The solution set is ∅.

00:01 This problem wants us to use the substitution or elimination method to solve the system.
00:04 And i'm going to go with elimination here, and i'm going to focus on trying to eliminate the y values, because we're somewhat close to elimination being set up already, because we have a negative 8y, and we have almost a positive 8y, but we have a plus 8 .9th y.
00:20 But we can get rid of that 9 denominator by multiplying the entire top equation by 9, and that will give us a new equation that will help us to solve the system.
00:30 9 times negative 1 5th x will be negative 9 5th x.
00:34 And then we have 9 times a positive 8 nights, which would be 72 nights, but simplified would get us back to 8 nights.
00:40 So plus 8, or excuse me, plus 8 y.
00:42 So plus 8 y there after the 72 nints, simplified 8 .y.
00:46 And then 9 times negative 1 9ths will give us negative 9 9ths, which is negative 1.
00:51 So we do have our y value set up to eliminate, but what we're going to see when we go to use elimination is something that can look a little strange...
