We want to design a reactor for the following dimerization reaction:
2 CH2=CH-CH=CH2 Ⅴ (CH2=CH-CH=CH2)2
The reaction is to be performed at 1.5 atm, gas-phase and for XA = 0.66. Calculate: (a) the optimal temperature in a CSTR and its volume; F0 = 40 kmol h-1; yA0 = 80 mol%; yI0 (inerts) = 20 mol%, (b) initial temperature for reaching the optimal temperature operating adiabatically, (c) amount of heat required if the initial temperature is 300 K, (d) the optimal relation conversion-temperature for obtaining the same reaction rate in a PFR. ΔHA800K = 37400 cal mol-1; CP|I = 7.2 cal mol-1 K-1; CP|A = 31.2 cal mol-1 K-1; second-order reaction with log(k) = 8.063 – 5470/T [ k in mol h-1 L-1 atm2]; equilibrium constant in Table 2.
