Hello students, for the given question, as a therapist working with amputee para sport athletes, two types of injuries that i might have to deal with are skin breakdown and joint injuries.
00:30
First, skin breakdown.
00:45
Amputees who has or who use prosthetic limbs are at a risk of developing skin breakdown due to the pressure and friction caused by the prosthetic socket.
01:20
To prevent this type of injury, i would recommend that the athlete maintain proper hygiene and skin care, regularly check the fit of the socket and use protective padding or liners to reduce pressure and friction.
01:56
I would also educate the athlete on the signs and symptoms of skin breakdown such as redness, blistering or skin tears and encourage them to seek prompt medical attention if they occur.
02:22
Second injury is joint injuries.
02:32
Amputees who have had higher risk for joint injuries due to the increased load and stress on their remaining limbs.
02:55
To prevent joint injuries, i would recommend that the athlete engage in a proper warm up and cool down routines, maintain good flexibility and strength through regular exercises and rehabilitation and avoid overuse or repetitive activities that may place excessive stress on the joints.
03:27
I would also encourage the athlete to wear appropriate supportive equipment such as braces or compression garments as needed.
03:43
If i were called to the field of play and found an unconscious amputee para sport athlete, my management of the situation would differ from the way i would manage an able -bodied athlete in the same situation...
