I need some help interpreting some data. I have some of the answers but I am having a hard time finishing this.
1. Describe the method used and why you used the method. We will apply this by sending out emails of our survey to 300 random students at BYU-Idaho. We chose this method because we felt that this would give us the best results of what the true average is. We are able to get a good amount of students' reports that show a random variety without having every single student answer the questions on our survey.
2. Check the requirements of the statistical method. To have a sample greater than 30. So it will be approximately normal according to the law of.
3. State the null and alternative hypotheses in words and symbols. H(0): μ (BYUI Students) = 8, H(A): μ (BYUI Students) ≠ 8. Null Hypothesis states that BYU-I Students have an average of 8 hours of screen time, while the Alternative Hypothesis says that they don’t have an average of 8 hours.
4. State the level of significance. 0.05
5. State the test statistics and degrees of freedom. Test Statistic= -11.122 & Degrees of Freedom= 45
6. State the p-value. The p-value was 0.00
7. Make a statement on rejecting or not rejecting the null hypothesis by comparing the p-value to the level of significance. We fail to reject the null hypothesis because our P-value was less than our level of significance.
8. Make a concluding statement and referencing the alternative hypothesis when making the concluding statement. We fail to reject the null hypothesis that the students at BYU-Idaho are not the same as Baylor’s study that found that the average college students' hours spent on the phone per day is equal to 8 hours. BYU-Idaho students' average time spent was equal to 4.728. We have sufficient evidence to state this.
9. Calculate and interpret the confidence interval. We are 95% confident that our confidence level.
10. Compare the confidence interval to the null hypothesis to determine whether the null hypothesis should be rejected.
11. Take Action
What action item would you take given the results you obtained?
