In October 1947, the Metaluna Survey Organization (MSO) surveyed 1100 adults American and
asked, "Are you a total abstainer from, or do you occasionally consume, alcoholic beverages?"
Of the 1233 adults surveyed, 707 indicated that they were total abstainers. In July of 2024, the
same question was asked to 1366 adults American and 530 indicated that they were not total
abstainers. Has the proportion of adults Americans who totally abstain from alcohol has
