Step 1
In statistics, an outlier is a data point that significantly differs from other observations. Outliers can be either low (smaller than most data points) or high (larger than most data points). Show more…

(b) Find the value of the interquartile range (IQR). IQR (c) Multiply the IQR by 1.5 and find the lower and upper limits. (Enter your answers to one decimal place:) lower limit upper limit (d) Are there any data values below the lower limit? Above the upper limit? List any suspected outliers. What might be some explanations for the outliers? Yes, 4 is below the lower limit and is probably an error. Yes, 80 is above the upper limit and is probably an error. No, there does not appear to be any outliers.

Statistics Chapter 4: Practice Finding Outliers Describe how to use the 1.5 IQR rule of thumb to look for outliers. Use the 1.5 IQR rule of thumb to find the lower and upper "fences" for outliers, then give some examples of possible values for outliers. Lower outlier fence Upper outlier fence Example outlier values Data 18, 24, 32, 34, 45, 55, 78 14, 13, 4, 14, 10, 2, 13, 5, 0, 0, 13, 3, 9, 2, 10, 11, 13, 5, 14 65 70 75 80 85 90 95 100 270 280 290 300 310 320 330 340 350 360 370 Why are quartiles generally more reliable for judging outliers than mean and standard?
Jerelyn N.
Suppose the 1st Quartile of a data set is 50 and the 3rd Quartile value is 90. True or false / or can't be determined Suspected Outliers can be found by adding or subtracting 2 IQR from the Median. The Median of the data set is 70. The Mean of the data set is 70. Suspected Outliers can be found by adding 1.5 IQR to Q3. -20 would be a suspected outlier for the data set. 145 would be a suspected outlier for the data set. The Interquartile range (IQR) of the data set is 40. Suspected Outliers can be found by subtracting 1.5 IQR from Q1.
