Dr. Kagawa researches how advertisements portray women. Previous research on the subject suggests that women are typically shown as subordinate to or dependent on others, or as taking instructions from men. Women engage in caressing and touching gestures more than men. Even when women are portrayed in leadership roles, they are likely to be shown striking seductive poses or gazing out into space. Dr. Kagawa begins by collecting popular magazines from the last twenty years and analyzing the way women are portrayed. Dr. Kagawa's intention is to uncover different themes and messages about how women are portrayed in advertisements. Dr. Kagawa outlined four questions suggested by the research literature. To collect data, each of the magazines were viewed three times. Coding entailed taking note of the others in the ad. Dr. Kagawa's analysis revealed three primary themes across the ads. In interpreting these three themes, the researcher identified several sub-themes, as well as points of contrast. Where appropriate, connections were made to existing theories, either as points of comparison or as extensions to earlier work. The researcher also identified the research method tool being utilized in this scenario. Was this study deductive or inductive? Did the researcher take on an obtrusive or unobtrusive role? What type of data is being collected? (Need to provide 4 answers) Participant Observation Controlled Experiment Survey Research Field Research Content Analysis Inductive Reasoning Obtrusive Role Unobtrusive Role Quantitative Data Qualitative Data
