Practice Question 2 - Please help with question B
(a) The dart collides with the block at time tc, and the center of mass of the dart-block system reaches its maximum height at time tr.
(i) Consider the dart-block-Earth system. E is the total mechanical energy of the dart-block-Earth system, and immediately before time tc it is equal to E0. On the axes below, sketch E as a function of time for t=tc to t=tF.
(ii) Now consider the system containing just the block and the dart. The magnitude of the momentum of the dart-block system is p and immediately before time tc it is equal to po. On the axes below, sketch p as a function of time for t=tc to t=tE.
(b) The block is replaced with a different block of mass M2, where M2 is greater than M1. The experiment is repeated with the same dart moving horizontally at the same speed Vo, and the center of mass of this dart-block system reaches a maximum height h2 above its initial position. How does h2 compare to h1?
h2 < h1
h2 = h1
h2 > h1
Without including equations in your response, explain your reasoning.
