Researchers want to assess whether there is a relationship between the number of friends participants have and their happiness (on a scale of 0-100 with equal intervals). What is the appropriate correlation coefficient? Phi coefficient Biserial Kendall tau Pearson's r
Banhishikha S.
If there is a relationship between whether or not an individual has a graduate-level degree and their yearly salary, the correlation coefficient that should be used is Pearson. Point biserial, Phi, and Spearman are also correlation coefficients, but they are not suitable for this specific scenario. In order to see the relationship between observed frequencies and expected frequencies in a test, the appropriate test to use is the Chi-square test of independence. Linear regression, the independent samples t-test, and the Chi-square test of independence are all types of tests, but only the Chi-square test of independence is suitable for comparing observed and expected frequencies. A phi correlation coefficient is used when both the predictor and criterion variables are dichotomous or continuous. None of the given options are correct. An example of a parametric test is the One-way ANOVA, while an example of a non-parametric test is the Mann-Whitney test. The Chi-square test of independence is also a non-parametric test, but the Chi-square goodness of fit test is not an example of a parametric test. To examine whether Democrats and Republicans differ with respect to IQ scores, the most appropriate analysis is the independent samples t-test. The Chi-square test of independence, related measures t-test, and single sample t-test are not suitable for this scenario.
