A peatland hydrologist expects that the water evaporation at the surface of a peatland should change after restoration. He selects 7 sites at which he measures surface evaporation (mm/day) in May, before and after restoration of the site. His data are as follows:

Based on previous studies, he expects that a restored peatland will hold more moisture, and therefore experience greater surface evaporation because there is more water available to evaporate. He is confident that water evaporation is a normally distributed variable. Test at a = 0.05 whether water evaporation did increase in this peatland after restoration.
