Some recent experiments have found that humans can sometimes see a single photon in an otherwise completely dark room if the person’s eyes are dark adapted and the conditions are just right. (Here, “see” means physically detecting the photon on the retina and being consciously aware of having seen a very brief, very dim point of light.) Suppose these experiments are using 498 nm photons (because that is the wavelength to which the rod cells are most sensitive). How much momentum does this human absorb when he sees one of these photons?
