A moving particle starts at an initial position r0 = 1,0,0 with initial velocity v0 = i - j + k. Its acceleration is at = 8ti + 8tj + k. Find its velocity and position at time t.
Solution
Since at = vt, we have
8ti + 8tj + kat
To determine the value of the constant vector C, we use the fact that v0 = i - j + k. The preceding equation gives v0 = C, so C = i - j + k and
vt = 4t^2i + 4t^2j + tk + i - j + k
+ t + 1k
Since vt = r', we have
vtdt
t^2 + 1i + 4t^2 - 1j + t + 1k dt
Putting t = 0, we find that D = r0 = i, so the position at time t is given by
r(t)
