I'm not a big fan of solving the problem this way, just because this synthetic of two -thirds is not technically correct.
00:08
But i'm getting technical right now, and it looks like this is what they want you to do anyway.
00:14
So 48, negative 248, 195, and then negative 344.
00:23
And so as you bring this 48 down and you multiply by what's in the box, i'm just change colors at this point.
00:32
And i don't think you need a calculator, but i'm going to use one that i'm going to multiply by two -thirds.
00:39
What i would do is divide by three first, which would be 16, and then times 2, and that's how i get 32.
00:48
And then you add straight down.
00:51
So 32 plus negative 248 is negative 216.
00:56
At this point, i think using a calculator would be the way to go that times 2 thirds is negative 140.
01:03
44 and again you're adding straight down so adding 195 to that is 51 and multiplying by two -thirds should give you positive 34 because as you add straight down you need to get a remainder of zero now this thing is technically not right because of this divided by three so if you actually did long division to do this you would actually need to divide each of these by three as well so if i did 48 divided by 3 i'm back at 16 x squared minus 216 divided by 3 is 72 x and 51 divided by 3 is 17.
01:48
Have you set this equal to zero? i'm going to guess that this is factorable, but this kind of looks ugly so it might be more advantageous to do the quadratic formula, which is negative b plus or minus the square root of b squared...
