Use the hydrogen atom energy level approximation and consider electrons inside an LED. This system can be modeled to be a 3D box. One side of the box is L, and the other side of the box is 'a'. Here, L > a.
a. The minimum size of L can be defined as follows: states will be continuous when the separation between states is equal to the thermal energy (i.e., 1/2 kT). Assuming the electron states to be ~10000, determine the minimum size of L.
b. Now, consider side 'a': If a photon of 3 eV is emitted when an electron transitions from the first excited state to the ground state, what would be 'a' of the well? Also, what is the color of light that is emitted?
