So here we are going to talk about a very important topic that is drug dependence.
00:06
So drug dependence is usually characterized with the tendency.
00:12
So tendency of a person toward a particular consumption of a drug can be characterized by this persistent tendency we can say.
00:22
And if this persistent tendency is basically undergoing any relapse due to the use of substance even after an abstinence period and we can say withdrawal symptoms are we can say can be seen and no longer in evidence we can say it is considered as drug dependence because if that particular person has a tendency towards a particular drug or towards the consumption of a particular drug it can be observed due to the presence of that persistent tendency and it basically a relapse can occur but if there is abstinence, then in this condition we can say if no symptoms are been observed, then we can say that person has overcome that condition.
01:06
And the chemical basis for this type of dependence depends upon certain parts of the brain which is not fully understood.
01:13
And the brain basically have a system which is known as a reward system.
01:18
A reward system is used in the context of motivation or emotion and it allows a person.
01:25
To experience a pleasure in response to a particular event and in response to a certain drugs which will enhance that particular event in order to provide pleasure to that person and this can cause or this can lead to the formation of a dependence act and this dependence act will affect the neural pathway and because of that the drug -taking behavior is enhanced in that person and this lead to the formation of a drug dependence in that person and this reward system of our brain we can say it is associated with our nucleus acubens and this is a structure which is present in the lower part of our forebrain and it is associated with the reward system and it is also associated with the addictive behavior which is being observed in people which shows the drug dependence mechanism and there are three major neurotransmitter system which are associated.
02:29
So these systems include dopamine, which is a very important neurotransmitter...
