We're learning about the membrane filtration process as applied
in the food industry.
Here are my results from an ultra-filtration and flux experiment
using apple juice.
a. What can you infer from the
change in membrane resistance (Rm) and fouling coefficient (k) with
the applied pressure?
b. What is the role of the effect of pressure on the membrane
resistance and fouling coefficient?
c. What is the effect of pressure on the total resistance?
d. Does the pressure influence total resistance in the same
manner as Rm and k? Why?
e. Discuss membrane polarization in the context of the
experiment performed. Under what conditions would you expect
it to be more of an issue?
