This resulted in a massive loss of wheat and soy beans yields, ultimately resulting in a large scale famine across most of South America.

Sudden explosion of underground Siberian Traps, causing a chain reaction of volcanoes that poisoned the air/water, made water anoxic, and changed the climate. Giant asteroid hitting the earth near the Gulf of Mexico, causing ash clouds that cooled the climate, tsunamis that changed coastal regions, and brought on the first ice age. Competition in land plant species caused organisms to be pushed out over the course of 1 million years, with changing climate that killed off a lot of sea life. An asteroid impact in Quebec and large volcanic eruptions in the Atlantic changed the climate significantly, along with the breakup of Pangea. These caused a large percentage of dinosaurs to go extinct, including many of the predecessors of modern-day crocodiles.
