Suppose you are a school-based social worker and you plan to conduct a survey of the parents of children in your elementary school. It seems to you that very few parents know you exist and those who do think you just sit in on planning for students with special needs to rubber stamp the school’s decisions or you are part of child protective services and want to cause problems for parents who believe in disciplining their children. You want to know whether the parents are aware of existing services and what other services they might find helpful.

The purpose of this study is to determine whether enough statistical evidence exists to enable me to conclude that sports plays an important role in the behavior and academic performance in the life of youth. The sample size is 30 middle and high school students. The sampling method chosen to conduct this research is cluster sampling. My plan is to conduct an in-person survey and ask parents/students the following question: Has sports played an important role in your behavior and academic performance? Professor Feedback: This is an excellent research report topic! Thank you for that. A few pieces of information are missing or need a little clarifying, such as what is the classification of your variable and its level of significance. But the main things that we need to figure out is what will the level of significance of your testing be and what exactly will your hypothesis be for the result of the information. Something that you can claim will happen and then do the hypothesis testing to see if you can support your belief or not basically. So it will have to be something like "I believe sports will help at least X% of youngsters" and then you'll have to have a way to answer this question for each student in the survey. Directions: 1) Start with the corrected proposal. The corrected proposal is the first part of the report, so start with it. Be sure to make all corrections so you won't have points taken off again. Then continue with the rest of the report with new paragraphs. 2) After you have collected data from your sample, then address the following issues in 1 paragraph. Did you follow your plan or did you have to change any part? State any problems you had or any unusual things that happened. Was the data what you expected? 3) After conducting the hypothesis test, give the following info in 1 paragraph. State the proportion from your data. State the null hypothesis in words and not in symbols. State the decision (from your hypothesis test) whether to reject or not reject the null hypothesis. 4) Give the following info in 1 paragraph. State the summary of your results (the inference/conclusion from the hypothesis test). State at least 3 biases. Give ways to improve upon your sample if you were to test the claim again. Did the test turn out the way you thought it would? Give new ideas that you thought of during the process. Give ways that you could expand the project. Be sure to include anything that you learned throughout the project.
