Families who struggle meeting the daily needs of their children often note that administrators and teachers do not understand their daily challenges. They cite a “huge bridge” between the socio-economic status of district faculty and community families; claiming school personnel have no idea about their lives or living conditions. Such gaps of lack of understanding and empathy do exist, are evident, and can be destructive for schools.
