Consider yourself a detective who is waiting to interrogate a suspect you think to be guilty of a crime. As you start the suspect's interview, you see that he is quite composed and does not appear depressed or unhappy. How would you approach this suspect in an effort to get a confession, and why? Text: Read each of the scenarios below. Review the methods of interrogation from your text. Which themes and which approach would most likely be productive for the suspect described? Scenario 1: The suspect of a simple assault is a white female. She is the girlfriend of the victim, and as she was being taken into custody, she kept yelling that her boyfriend was cheating on her and she's not dangerous. She has been in an interrogation room for the past 45 minutes. You have watched her for some of that time pace back and forth. She is biting her nails and looks close to tears. Which themes and which approach would be most effective at eliciting a confession from her? Scenario 2: A Hispanic male was just arrested as a suspect in a robbery case. He has been sitting in the interrogation room for over an hour, and he hasn't moved from his chair or asked for anything. When you walk into the room, he looks at you directly in the eye and smirks. He knows you, and you know him. This is not his first arrest; you have personally arrested him before on similar charges. Which themes and which approach would be most effective at eliciting a confession from him?
