The following is a series of experiments, for each one decide what the most appropriate method of analyzing their data is and justify your answer. 1. You’re testing the impacts of commuting on stress. You recruit undergraduate psychology majors and determine whether they have to commute to campus or they live there. You also think that the season may affect them so you have them answer questions in January and in May. You compare these variables to their perceived stress scores, determined by a questionnaire. 2. You’re reading about a study of non-human primates in the wild measuring cooperation. The authors claim that cooperation is a learned trait among these primates, and so they use an observational measurement to determine the cooperation of the children and then four years later they come back to measure the cooperation of the same primates as adolescents. 3. You’re reading about the risk factors of heart disease among people who have recently had a depressive episode. The study uses a continuous score to measure the participants current depressive symptoms and a doctor screens their health charts (with the participants’ permission) to compute a continuous composite score of their risk for heart disease.
