Operant conditioning has been used to modify the behavior of groups of people in psychiatric wards, group homes, and even in the Sylvan Learning Center to help students achieve better grades. The token economy treatment/approach rewards desired behaviors with a type of non-monetary currency that may eventually be exchanged for tangible rewards.

In this unit, you are examining how people learn information and how they develop. Behaviorism is a school of thought in psychology that attempts to explain learning through different types of associations and conditioning. Think about how this type of learning occurs in your own life, as well as developmental theories. Please respond to the following: Describe things that you have learned through the process of classical conditioning, operant conditioning, and observational learning. How did you learn them? Identify an oppressed population in our society and describe how nature/nurture influences have impacted them. Identify one theorist of development (Piaget, Erikson, Freud, or Kohlberg) and explain why this person's theory makes the most sense to you. reply with reference

Chapter 5 points out that research on Operant Conditioning has revealed that reinforcing behavior is a more effect way to shape desired actions than is punishment. Yet many sources of behavioral conditioning, such as parenting and law enforcement, must rely on some degree of punishment. Are there ways in which parents and law enforcement methods could be more effective by rewarding good behavior rather than punishing bad behavior?
