Question construction Part Designing useful and trustworthy survey research begins with formulating good questions. There are many ways in which researchers can frame questions so that they get the information that they seek. There are also many ways researchers can frame questions poorly, thereby interfering with the collection of useful information. In the table that follows, match the type of problem with its description. Overly-Long Question Lack of Clarity Double-Barrelled Lack of Relevance Negative Item Biased Item Description: A question that leads the respondent away from one or more answers. A question that asks for a single answer to a question that actually has multiple parts. A question that is wordy and complicated. A question item that is not precise enough for the respondent to know exactly what the researcher is asking. A question with the word "not" in it that prevents the researcher from understanding the meaning of the respondent's answer.
