The Addition Method

solve-each-system-of-equations-by-the-addition-method-if-a-system-contains-fractions-or-decimals--76

Solve each system of equations by the addition method. If a system contains fractions or decimals, you may want to first clear each equation of fractions or decimals. $$ \left\{\begin{array}{l} 0.04 x-0.05 y=0.105 \\ 0.2 x-0.6 y=1.05 \end{array}\right. $$

00:01 We're being asked to solve the given system of equations.
00:03 Well, i notice my second equation has decimal values in it, so you can either choose to get rid of them or to use them.
00:09 These decimals might not be so bad, so let's try and do the addition method.
00:13 Well, i'm going to try and get rid of the x's.
00:15 So to do that, i'm going to have to multiply the first equation by negative 0 .12.
00:21 So when i do that, i'm going to have negative 0 .12x minus 0 .12.
00:27 And it's going to equal, well, negative 0 .12 times 1 ,200 is going to be negative 144.
00:38 Helps when you put the 1 in there, negative 144.
00:40 There we go...
