You are conducting a test of independence to see if getting the flu is independent of whether or not you got a flu shot. Use ? = 0.05. Report all answers accurate to four decimal places. Here is the sample data. Category Got the Flu Did not get the Flu Got Flu Shot 48 45 Did not get Flu Shot 24 18 The expected observations for this table would be: Category Got the Flu Did not get the Flu Got Flu Shot Did not get Flu Shot The resulting (O-E)^2/E for finding the test are: Category Got the Flu Did not get the Flu Got Flu Shot Did not get Flu Shot What is the chi-square test-statistic for this data? (add the results from the previous table) ?^2 =

You are conducting a test of independence to see if getting the flu is independent of whether or not you got a flu shot. Here is the sample data. Category | Got the Flu | Did not get the Flu Got Flu Shot | 15 | 29 Did not get Flu Shot | 59 | 93 The expected observations for this table would be Category | Got the Flu | Did not get the Flu Got Flu Shot | | Did not get Flu Shot | | The resulting (O - E)² / E for finding the test are: Category | Got the Flu | Did not get the Flu Got Flu Shot | | Did not get Flu Shot | | What is the chi-square test-statistic for this data? (add the results from the previous table) χ² = What is the P-Value for this test-statistic? P-Value = Can you conlude (at the 0.05 significance level) that getting the flu is independent of whether or not you got the flu shot? No not independent: getting the flu is dependent on if you got the flu shot. Yes independent: getting the flu is independent of if you got the flu shot.

A survey was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of a new flu vaccine that had been administered in a small community. The vaccine was provided free of charge in a two-shot sequence over a period of 2 weeks to those wishing to avail themselves of it. Some people received the 2-shot sequence, some only received the first shot, and others received neither. A survey of 1,000 local inhabitants in the following spring provided the following information: A) Under the assumption that the occurrence or non-occurrence of flu is independent of the vaccine history, what would be the expected cell frequency for the cell "No Vaccine-Flu" (the cell with an actual frequency of 24)? B) Calculate the appropriate test statistic for testing the independence of the vaccine history with the occurrence of the flu. C) What is the appropriate rejection region for the Probability of a Type I error to be set at 0.05? D) What is the conclusion for the hypothesis testing using (b) and (c)?
