But at a very small concentration of H + ions (alkaline conditions) it gives an error because it also responds to Na + ions. a) Explain the working principle of a glass membrane electrode which can be used to measure H + or pH ions! Include the cell notation on the pH meter's electrode and the equation relating the potential to the H + ions in the solution! b) Calculate the relative error of the H + ion measurement that occurs if the pH meter electrode is used to measure 1 x 10-2 M NaOH solution (assuming kH, Na = 10 ^ -10 and the activity coefficient = 1)
