You have in front of you fifty diamonds. They all look exactly alike except one of them is a fake. Because it's a fake, it weighs a couple of grams more than a real diamond (these must be really big diamonds!). You have a balance scale and can put one or more diamonds on each side to determine which side is heavier. What is least number of weighings you can make to find the fake (heavy) diamond?
Hint: you could put 25 diamonds on each side and find which batch of 25 included the heavy fake and then work from there. Better hint: This is not the best way to start.
