It has been a pleasure to work for Numerade! Over the last 2 years I have made 15,000+ videos. Numerade has provided many opportunities to share in their growth. I have been most impressed with their professionalism and honesty. They are courteous and prompt with responses to my inquiries and help keep me motivated with enjoyable bonuses and rate increases.
Before working at Numerade, I made hundreds of instructional videos for my own students. Although Numerade has its own online video creation tool, I was allowed to continue using my iPad to make videos. I create the annotations ahead of time, make corrections as needed, and play the annotations as I created a video voiceover. Videos are short and concise.
Finding time to choose and answer questions for video production was initially challenging. However, I soon realized I could work a little in the evenings, on weekends, or during lunch. By using my iPad to create annotations, I was able to work on questions even when not in a location to record a video. I could later record when in a quiet location. This flexibility made possible incorporating a second job into my busy schedule.
Initially, most created videos were for a general audience. However, with the introduction of “Ask” questions, I found answering a question for a specific individual more rewarding—and it also helps the pay rate is a little higher. During my first year, I was slower at making videos. I averaged $15-20/h using my two-step approach. Yet now with experience, I have decreased my average time to make a video and found confidence in answering only familiar questions. Unfortunately, finding these questions can be time consuming; but I know Numerade is working on this.
My wife lost her job two years ago, and despite having a master’s in public administration, she has still been unable to find a job. I don’t know how we would have survived without Numerade! They have helped ends meet. I continue to find great satisfaction being an educator for Numerade. I enjoy being part of an inevitable future aspect of education. Although I still prefer teaching in person, it’s apparent online and distance learning has an auspicious future!
