Numerade Educator Spotlight: Jennifer S.

Educator spotlight

Our network of professors, PhDs, high school teachers, and TAs produces thousands of STEM video lessons daily. In our Educator Spotlight series, we’re providing an opportunity for you to get to know the incredible educators who make our mission, to democratize STEM education, possible.

  • What sets Numerade apart from other tutoring services for educators?

I like that I am able to answer questions in a variety of subject areas in which I have knowledge and am not limited to just one category. I also like that the payments are issued on a continuous basis based on when a batch of videos is submitted. This really helps me as I am only paid once a month in my full-time job, so it’s really nice to have income coming in between paydays.

I also like that I am able to do it on my own time and am not tied to set hours. This means that I can work around my full-time schedule as well as my kids’ activities.

  •  How has Numerade refined or improved your teaching ability?

Numerade helps me from becoming complacent in my full-time career as an educator. It allows me to stay current with the type of questions that students are being asked and the content that they are studying as well. As a high school teacher, this helps me know what my students are going to be encountering as many of them move on to higher education.

  • How has creating content on Numerade improved your overall preferred STEM subject knowledge?

Overall, Numerade helps me stay current with what students are learning.

  •  How do you think educators could use Numerade for professional development?

I think it could help provide educators with another way to help students learn as it provides another way for them to get their questions answered and learn.

  • What other unexpected benefits have you gained from being an educator on Numerade?

I’ve been able to afford some of the fun parts of life more than I expected. I wasn’t sure what to expect when I started as I was just looking for a way to earn some extra money to help pay the monthly bills. I never expected that it would supplement my income to the degree that it has and allow me to provide my family with more opportunities (such as private lessons, extra activities, vacations, etc.)

  • We were blown away to hear that we helped you buy two vehicles last year! Any fun upcoming trips with the family planned :)?

We actually took an extra long road trip this summer. We always travel several states away during the summer to visit family. But this summer, we traveled 7,500 miles in 33 days. We traveled across 15 states, visiting 9 of them and stopping for 5 college tours along the way. My oldest is a senior in high school this year and I will be able to afford some extra dance opportunities for her and help get her off to college next fall. My youngest is going to be able to take two overseas trips with the school before graduating high school. They’ll be traveling to Belgium and France this spring break and are going to Spain and Italy just after graduation. I’m hoping to be able to travel to Atlanta next summer to FINALLY see my favorite baseball team play live, in-person, at their home stadium.
