A Free Online Learning Pilot for Schools

Right now, students need a hand. That’s why we launched Numerade for Schools, a free pilot program for K-12 schools and community colleges that gives students access to our entire library of over 2 million step-by-step STEM videos – and gives educators the resources to provide remote instruction and personalized STEM support for all of their students.

The impact of COVID-19 on education has been dramatic. Studies show that across the board, students are months, or even years, behind historical learning levels due to unfinished learning. At the start of the 2021-22 school year, students were on average 4 months behind their typical performance in math. In addition, those who attended lower-income schools were 7 months behind their historical peers in math, and students who attended schools that were majority Black or Hispanic finished 6 months behind their typical performance. COVID has widened the educational opportunity gap and urgent intervention is needed to address unfinished learning.

Closing the educational opportunity gap and giving every student access to a high quality STEM education is at the core of Numerade’s mission, and we believe asynchronous online tutoring can play a critical role in helping schools address unfinished learning. We know that personalized, high impact tutoring works in helping students catch up, learn STEM and succeed. But given limited funding, staffing issues and time constraints, most schools simply don’t have the resources to provide this kind of one-on-one support for their students, and the cost of private tutors can be prohibitively expensive for families and guardians. We believe our free pilot program can help schools address the issue and give students the support they need to succeed.

Online Supports for Students and Educators

By giving students and teachers access to the world’s largest library of STEM video lessons, courses and textbook tutorials, Numerade for Schools replicates the one-on-one experience between educators and learners when personalized, in-person support isn’t possible. Our online platform leverages AI technology to support students through asynchronous, short-form videos, allowing them to pursue their own learning pathways at their own pace. In addition, our video-first format is ideally suited to engage today’s digital-native student body and increase learning retention. With millions of video lessons matched directly to the STEM textbooks that educators already use, Numerade for Schools is highly flexible, scalable and customizable, making it suitable for many different applications and student needs, including:

  • Independent Study: Using our easily searchable library of STEM videos, students can find lessons matched right to their textbooks. In addition, Numerade offers 18 full-length online courses in core STEM subjects, allowing students to learn concepts on their own and at their own pace.
  • Flipped Classroom: Teachers can assign video lessons ahead of class, or in place of class days, so that students can learn concepts at home and complete short online quizzes on the material, the results of which teachers can view so they know how much support each student needs.
  • Teacher’s Assistant: Using the world’s first AI tutor, Numerade can provide students with personalized lesson plans and video suggestions based on their areas of study and progress levels, making Numerade a powerful differentiation tool for educators.
  • Course Supplements: With our Class feature, educators can curate playlists of videos from our entire library, and easily create their own video content to include in their lessons. In addition, teachers get data and insights into student engagement and progress.

Why STEM Matters

According to recent studies, 80% of professions will require a deep understanding of STEM skills in the next decade. However, 57% of students are struggling to meet basic skill requirements in math, and math anxiety is leading many students away from STEM-related fields. We believe that expanding access to high-quality STEM instruction will help close both the gender gap and opportunity gaps for the historically disenfranchised we see in STEM fields. Numerade can be an essential tool in giving students the STEM and critical thinking skills they need to succeed in the 21st century.

More than 70 million learners have used our STEM education tools to accelerate their learning, and 92% of students who use Numerade report better grades. Technology can never, ever replace teachers. But we believe the right technology can empower educators with tools and insights to scale their impact and give all students the STEM support they need. Through our free pilot program for schools, Numerade can be a valuable partner in the fight against COVID learning loss.
