A Student’s Guide to AI

How students can use AI

Students, we know you’re likely already familiar with Artificial Intelligence (AI). While districts are figuring out how to implement it we wanted to give you a leg up. As a student, you likely know that AI is incredibly powerful and versatile. What you may not know is often what limits AI is our own imagination. That’s why we’ll be using this guide to inform you how AI works and how to leverage it to achieve your goals.

What is AI?

Before we can get into how to use it, let’s talk about how AI works. And no, it’s not going to take over the world anytime soon so don’t worry about whispering in front of your phone or computer.

Essentially AI is software that simulates human intelligence to create content and perform tasks that typically require human input. AI uses a variety of codes and sequences to interpret given data, recognize patterns, and make decisions. It’s important to understand that AI is just a tool, the efficacy of its use completely depends on the user.

So what does this look like in action? Well, if you give an AI a command like:

“How do I learn to play guitar?”

The AI will do what a person would normally do. Look through a vast number of websites, discern what information is correct or the most valuable, and then utilize that info to start learning guitar.

The main difference is that this research may take the average person hours to complete. An AI can scan all of these sites, collect the most factually accurate and helpful sources, and then compile that info into an easy-to-understand plan in a matter of seconds.

AI in School

Let’s tackle the elephant in the room first, what all teachers, administrators, and parents fear most:

Using AI to Cheat

Can you use it to cheat? Sure, but that’d probably be the worst way to use it. Not just because of the moral implication but:

  • You’d only be hurting your ability to learn because while you can use it to cheat on homework you’d ultimately find yourself struggling with and failing major tests and exams where you’re unable to access AI. Then you’ve dug yourself even deeper into that hole if you’re a current high school student heading into college where professors will be actively looking for and expecting it.
  • AI can be leveraged in a smarter and more creative way to drive true understanding of a difficult concept or topic, instead of just as an answer peddler. This in turn will make you a smarter, better student in the long run, more equipped to face tougher challenges because, let’s face it, school only gets harder from here.

This isn’t us saying don’t use AI, this is us saying use AI smarter than just as a source of instant answers. Now that’s out of the way, let’s tackle all the smart ways for you to use AI for long-term success.

How to Use AI to Improve Grades

At Numerade we developed the world’s first AI tutor, Ace, to help students with personalized learning. We’ve recently made some major changes to Ace’s capabilities that vastly increase what Ace can handle. Currently, most AI have an inconsistent success rate with STEM-related questions and this is what sets Ace apart from the rest. Ace’s responses and STEM know-how are driven by our proven, educator-crafted content, this ensures Ace’s answers are far more accurate than any other AI.

Here are just a few examples of what our free AI tutor can do to help improve learning outcomes.

  • Step-by-Step Explanations
Use Ace AI to solve homework problems

When given a problem Ace can explain the exact necessary steps to solve the problem. Instead of spitting out an answer, Ace will tell you how you can reach the solution. This ensures you can confidently and competently handle similar problems come test day.

Even better, if you don’t understand the solution, ask Ace to explain it again in simpler terms. This is tutoring made for your convenience because at the end of the day, no one knows your needs better than you.

  • Create a Plan of Study

We know we keep saying it’s tutoring tailored to you but it’s important you understand exactly what that means.

Have you ever seen your classmates and thought: “Why does it come so easy to them but not for me?”. Well, it’s not because you’re doing anything wrong. It’s simply because you learn differently than them. That student has found a way to study that benefits their strengths and meets their needs. All you have to do is find your own method of studying that’s customized to your brain.

This is where Ace shines.

First, ask Ace to create a study plan (you can even provide the textbook name!). Then Ace will provide a day-by-day plan of study designed to help you find success. If any of the provided methods didn’t quite work out, simply ask Ace to adjust. No two students learn alike, we know this, that’s why we’ve developed tools so students can control their own learning.

  • Create Practice Quizzes
Use Ace AI to make practice quizzes

If asked Ace can create quick practice quizzes on a particular subject. Remember, the more information you provide, the more helpful Ace’s provided feedback will be. If you’re looking to practice a specific type of problem, simply ask Ace to create a practice quiz.

These features only scratch the surface of what Ace can do. As corny as it sounds, the only limitation here is what you can think of. Want to try our completely free AI tutor today? Head on over and try Ace out yourself! Just try to stump them (we bet you can’t 🙂 ).

How to Use Ace for Social-Emotional Needs

How to make friends with AI

School is hard for all students. Learning how to make new friends, greet new teachers, speak in groups, and handle stress & frustration are all things that you’ll have to learn to do. Fortunately, Ace can help with that. Just ask Ace about whatever you’re struggling with and Ace will instantly provide you with a helpful solution.

The Wrap-Up

Remember, AI is a powerful tool but like we said, it’s just a tool. The more you educate yourself on how best to use it, the more you have to gain throughout your time in school. We definitely recommend taking some time to interact with Ace (tell them we said hi!) and ask whatever you can think of! We guarantee you’ll be shocked by what our AI is capable of.
