Using Models Use the model given to answer the questions about the object or process being modeled. The power $P$ measured in horsepower (hp) needed to drive a certain ship at a speed of $s$ knots is modeled by $$P=0.06 s^{3}$$ (a) Find the power needed to drive the ship at 12 knots. (b) At what speed will a 7.5 -hp engine drive the ship?

A mountain climber models the temperature $T$ ( in $^{\circ} \mathrm{F}$ ) at elevation $h$ (in ft) by $$T=70-0.003 h$$ (a) Find the temperature $T$ at an elevation of 1500 $\mathrm{ft}$ . (b) If the temperature is 64$^{\circ} \mathrm{F}$, what is the elevation?

Using Models Use the model given to answer the questions about the object or process being modeled. The distance $d$ (in mi) driven by a car traveling at a speed of $v$ miles per hour for $t$ hours is given by $$d=v t$$ If the car is driven at 70 milh for 3.5 $\mathrm{h}$ , how far has it traveled?

we're being asked to evaluate to given expression using the order of operations. And I gave us a little checklist off to the side with our four steps. So let's go through each step to evaluate this given expression. Well, one is to evaluate grouping symbols, but as you can see, we don't have any grouping symbols, so we don't have to worry about that. Step two is the exponents. Well, we do have an expo Nen. This case we have three squared, which remember means three times three, which is equal to nine. So we're gonna bring down everything else. So we're going to still have 12 minus seven times two plus. And like we said, three squared is equal tonight. Now we've taken care of our exponents. So next we're going to multiply and divide in order from left to right. Well, in this case, we only have multiplication. We have seven times to, which is equal to 14. So we're gonna bring down to 12 minus and then seven times two is 14 and we'll bring down the plus nine and there is no other multiplication or division. So now, for our last step adding, subtracting and again. We have to go in order from left to right. So first we'll take care of our subtraction. Well, 12 minus 14 is negative two. So we're gonna have negative two plus nine. So now we have one operation, so we just take care of it. Well, negative two plus nine is equal to seven. So what we've found is the value of our given expression is equal to seven.
