Using Models Use the model given to answer the questions about the object or process being modeled. The distance $d$ (in mi) driven by a car traveling at a speed of $v$ miles per hour for $t$ hours is given by $$d=v t$$ If the car is driven at 70 milh for 3.5 $\mathrm{h}$ , how far has it traveled?

So in this section we're gonna be talking about how we can translate words into algebraic expressions. So what I wanted to do is compiled a list. So that way of words that you would know whether, what operation you should use, whether it be addition, subtraction, multiplication or division. So let's come up with some of these keywords. Well, let's start with addition. Well, for addition, first thing you can simply have an expression that uses the word, um ad. So that would be the first time we add to our list is the word ad. It might seem obvious, but as long as you have it on your list, that will help you. Another word that would record that would mean addition would be the word some. So if you at any time you see the word some, that means you should be doing edition. Um, another freeze here could be the freeze. More than so. More than we mean edition. Um, if the word plus also refers to addition and the number one that comes up a lot is the word increased. So if something got increased by a certain amount, that will again lead thio addition So all of these words are pretty popular words that would tell you that the operation you need to use is edition. Now, let's start with subtraction. So kind of like you do with addition, if you see the word subtract, that would kind of be a giveaway that you need to do subtraction. So we're subtract, Um, another word force of traction would be the word difference, which is a pretty popular one. So again, the word difference means to subtract, um, a number one kind of like the opposite of what we have. For addition, we have more than for addition. So for subtraction, you have less done, which can sometimes be a little confusing because you have a less than sign. So you really have to make sure you're reading the problem to know, Are they asking for you to use the inequality sign or if they're when they used the phrase lesson, it's referring to an operation. Um, another word is the word minus that would be in subtraction and kind of like the opposite at are the bottom of our edition list. We have increased for subtraction. We would have decreased. So these are all pretty popular words or phrases that would indicate to you that you should be subtracted. Now let's go the multiplication. So, just like in our previous list, um, the most basic word that you could use for multiplication is multiply and again might seem like common sense, but it can never hurt to add it to our list. Here, um, the word product means multiplication, So product is pretty popular. Um, the word times would mean multiplication. Um, and the word off it's a small word, but you, But typically, when you're talking about off a lot of times, you're using it with percentages or fractions. So off also means multiplication. So again, thes air. Also pretty typical multiplication words. The next one I'm gonna put in here, I'm going to use the word twice. Not only does twice mean specific form multiplication, but it does mean to multiply specifically. It means to multiply by two. So I'll put times to here. So just so you know, Thio take twice of a number means to multiply it by two. Now, let's go to division. So the first word that might come to mind is divide, um, the popular word question so quotes. It means to do division. And these air kind of your basic ones for division division head doesn't have too many, um, but quotient and divide or probably your most popular ones. So this is a pretty decent list of words that mean addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. And in the next couple of videos, I'm going to show you examples of how we can use these words when we're giving a phrase so that we can actually write an algebraic expression.
