Hello! I'm Mrs. Moody, an educator with over 15 years' experience in teaching and assessment.
I earned my Bachelor of Science in Human Ecology and Master of Education in Middle Childhood Education from The Ohio State University. I wrote my undergraduate Honors thesis on Howard Gardner's Theory of Multiple Intelligences and my Master's Thesis on the effects of how Hispanic culture's perception of education impacts students from Latin American countries attending American schools. I taught in Concepcion, Chile, to compile research for my thesis.
Upon graduation, I moved to Tucson, AZ and began my teaching career. I taught 7th-grade math and 8th-grade Honors Algebra I. I also had the opportunity to create and teach my own Geometry/Statistics course for accelerated/gifted students. From there, I moved to Las Vegas and taught 8th-grade pre-Algebra and 8th-grade Honors Algebra I. I then moved to Tampa, FL and began teaching 7th-grade Language Arts. I was able to move into high school English where I taught 9th-grade English I and English I Honors, 10th-grade English II Honors, English IV, Advanced Reading, and Logic and Semantics. I then had the opportunity to work for our district's assessment department through the Race to the Top grant. In this position, I worked with teachers to develop our district-wide assessments (semester exams, formatives, etc.). When the grant concluded, I went back to the classroom to teach 6th-grade math, 7th-grade math, intensive math, and World History. I'm now working full-time through our county's virtual school program teaching pre-Algebra and Algebra I.
In addition to classroom teaching, I have tutored students individually for several years. I have worked with students on multiple levels of English, Math, and test prep (ACT/SAT). I consistently get feedback from my students that I explain difficult concepts in a way that make them seem easy. I am also passionate about conceptual understanding rather than relying on rote memorization of formulas and facts. I love teaching and I love learning, and my students often tell me that it shows.
Beyond the classroom, I spend most of my free time with my family. I have a husband and three great kids who keep me on my toes and make me laugh every day. In addition, I am an avid writer. I have two published works and also develop educational resources. I enjoy watching college sports, traveling, and watching great reality TV!
