Social Deviance

Pornography is a concept that has been used throughout history. However, today's use is significantly more compared to other time periods. Pornography is becoming more realistic and it may be addictive. Pornographic consumers are not all addicted to pornography, but the harm of pornography is not measurable in harm because it is subjective. The harmfulness of pornography varies based on the individual. Individuals can feel compelled to view pornography, but they are not dependent on pornography in the same was as other addicts are to items such as alcohol and tobacco. Pornography can be an influence on an individual's view of women and alter society's views of a woman's sexual expectations. Pornography tends to portray relationships that are abusive or demeaning to women despite women in real life wanted a stable, respectful relationship. Marriages involved with pornography are 3 times as likely to end in divorce compared to marriages lacking pornography. Statistics on adolescents and children's use of pornography is not available because parents do not allow them to access pornography and
consent. However, children and adolescents are more exposed to pornography more compared to previous generations because of the Internet. Pornography is a subject that should provide research on all aspects of the field rather than from the consumers point of view. It is important to provide research on the creator's point of view. Research is not available from the creator's point of view to develop a reliable idea on how it affects them. There are issues with trafficking within pornography. Women make up around 80% of those trafficked, with 50% of those women being children. There is about 70% of those women and children being exploited sexually. Children exposed to pornography are more likely to view women as sex objects and young girls are more likely to be sexually promiscuous from pornographic exposure.
With this article, it tends to point out the negatives of pornography and doesn't discuss the positives of pornography. Pornography is an industry that can create jobs and can liberate individuals sexually. There are issues with the pornography industry because it is not a regulated industry. Those who do want to regulate it want to ban it completely. I do not agree with banning it and believe that we should legalize all sex work. With this legalization, we would be able to regulate it and protect victims from being harmed. There will be individuals who will be trafficked but it will be easier to protect them if we regulate sex work as the government will be able to create contracts and intervene when a situation appears to be illegal. The sex industry is one that has not gone away, despite the amount of time spent looking the other way. When discussing this topic, I always ask the question, "it's going to exist, why not tax it?? It is similar to the alcohol legalization. Pope County is a dry county and citizens go to nearby areas, such as Blackwell, to buy
