Prescription Assistance Programs

Interdisciplinary Communication Rasmussen University NUR2407 Section RJPA1A0E Pharmacology 2 In recent decades, prescribing drugs has become an essential part of quality health care Access to these drugs can mean better health outcomes for the population, a better quality of life, and can help them avoid complications of their pathologies. However, there is a high percentage of citizens who cannot pay for their prescription drugs due to their high costs. Therefore, it is necessary to create Prescription Assistance Programs (PAP), to facilitate access to medications for those patients who lack medical insurance and drug coverage. The objective of this meeting is to create an agreement to obtain financial assistance for patients to obtain the drugs they need for free or at a low cost to obtain better health results. Below are the stakeholders who can contribute to this mission. Prescribers are a fundamental part of the creation and promotion of PAPs. Prescribers are in charge of prescribing drugs to patients, and they know which are the main drugs used to treat each condition. Prescribers also know the availability of drugs in the area. They know the different brands and which ones have the best cost-quality ratio. Prescribers can also contribute to the program by taking care to compile a list of the most affordable, accessible, and effective options for patients. In this way, when this list is created and identified, it would be easier to know which drugs are the most essential and should be offered in the PAP created for the community. Discharge planners are also an essential component in creating the PAP. Discharge planners oversee making sure that people, when they leave the hospital, continue with their treatment and are placed in a suitable environment. In the creation of the PAP, discharge planners can contribute by giving their opinion on the main problems that patients face when they are discharged with respect to the medication they are prescribed or should use. The discharge planners are also aware of the main drugs used by patients and are also adequately aware of the supply of drugs in the community. Financial navigators should also be included in the invitation because they are responsible for helping families overcome difficulties related to the cost of treatment. From the perspective of financial navigators, the emotions and problems suffered by patients could be 2 better understood to address their medical expenses. It would also help to create realistic payment and financial plans, as well as suggest methods to reduce the costs associated with treatments needed by patients. Financial navigators are experts in trying to make it easier for patients to access medicines and healthcare. Suppliers are another essential group that should be part of the discussion. Suppliers are the ones who would supply the drugs to the program. Suppliers could even become sponsors of the PAP to be developed, can provide financial assistance for the project to become a success, can make donations, and can even contribute by providing special drug prices for low-income people.
