The Leadership Imperative of Self-Care

The Leadership Imperative of Self Care What are your own self care practices? My self-care practices involve morning meditations. My morning meditations vary. Sometimes it's a music reflection, other times it's a professional guided meditation. When time permits, my meditation is followed by watching an inspirational television show for at least 1/2 hour before I go to work. Most of the shows are repeats from shows that I enjoyed enough to DVR from cable. During my day at work, I have access to a Holy Bible app on my phone, I also receive daily quotes from scriptures via email on my cell phone. I read these scriptures throughout the day during breaktimes. They're quick and at my finger-tips. This routine started when I used to take the bus to work. I would take the buses for 1 1/2 hours to work and usually 3 hours home from work. I would spend these hours reading and texting from my cell phone as conversations are usually not allowed on the bus because the driver and other passengers can be disturbed by loud music and cell phone conversations. What new ones do you want to build into your schedule? Eating healthier would be a great beginning for me. Bringing healthy snacks like fruits and vegetables to work. I would love to build exercise into my self-care. I used to exercise 20-30 minutes in the morning and I've recently stopped doing that. I would love to incorporate the self- care " ... approach called GRACCE, focusing on Goals, Resources, Action, Control, Change and Evaluation" (Frost & Rutigliano, 2017, pg. 654). I am sure that if I integrate ongoing self-care by " ... making sure to eat healthy foods, exercising regularly, meditating, making time to relax and see friends" (Heyman and Lieberman, 2014) I will be progressing towards the practice of habitual self-care. What does Daft or other authors say about self-care? Are you inspired to take even better care of yourself? This assignment has given me permission to do more self-care. I am more inspired to take even better care of myself.
