Social Factors that contribute to addiction

Describe the issue in the social sciences that you have selected to investigate. Why is this issue significant? a. The social science issue that I chose to research is the social factors that contribute to addiction. There are many factors that contribute to one falling into drug addiction, including one's mental health. A person may try drugs for the first time to ease pain they are feeling from depression, or they could be pressured to try a drug at a party by someone who is their friend. A lot of the younger generations are partying and always looking for a good time. They attend raves and other types of parties where drugs are known to be. The younger generation lives a freer life with no weight holding them down than those from the generation before them. An issue with addiction is the fact that there are many causes to one becoming addicted, including peer pressure, mental health, and access. Identify the social science principle(s) that apply to your issue. In other words, which principles of social science apply to the issue you selected? (Social Norms. social roles, social institutions, and beliefs and values) a. Two social science principles that apply to the issue of addiction are social norms and beliefs and value. Explain how the principle(s) you identified apply to your issue. In other words, how are the social science principle(s) you identified relevant to your issue? a. The younger generation has made going to parties a part of their social norms. They believe in having a free life without having anything holding them back. They attend parties, such as raves, that are known to have party drugs. A person, who has never tried drugs before, may try the drugs because everyone around is loose and having a good time. The person wants to fit in.
