Jazz has many styles, much of it depending of geographical location: cool jazz, East Coast jazz, West Coast jazz, New Orleans jazz, Chicago jazz, swing, or big band. You may like each style or just one. Using the readings and listening guides in the course textbook, Part 8, choose the style of jazz you enjoy the most and explain in musical terms why. Make sure to share a YouTube video of a work, of your favorite style. As a result of reading and studying jazz music in this class, I gained an understanding of the numerous kinds of jazz, the majority of which are influenced by the various locations in the world. Jazz that was a combination of cool jazz, jazz rock (fusion), blues, and New Orleans jazz was the type of jazz that I like listening to the most. Bessie Smith, Louis Armstrong, Frank Sinatra, and Miles Davis are some of the musicians who I have worked with in the past and am familiar with. I made the decision to go with a wellflknown song that the majority of us are most likely to be familiar with, and that song is "What a Wonderful World" by Louis Armstrong (Baker & George Ph.D., n.d.). This song has been used in a number of movies, and it has received over fifty billion views on YouTube, or possibly even more depending on the version of his song that is shared between concerts and recordings. It was recorded in 1fi67 and has a familiar tone and a gentle melody. It conveys a positive message and outlook on life. It is one of those feelflgood songs. It is one of his most famous hits, along with Hotter Than That (1fi27), a tune written by Louis Armstrong's wife Lillian (The Wonderful World of Louis Armstrong, 2010). In this song, he sings and plays trumpet. The New Orleans style of music relies heavily on collective improvisation (The Evolution of Jazz Music, n.d.). Despite the fact that there are a big number of other jazz musicians who create lovely music and that there were a great number of nice ones to select from, I decided to go with a more wellflknown and influential musician.
