"Toccata and Fugue in D minor" was written by Johann Sebastian Bach, known as one of the greatest composers, at some point which has not been specified between the years of 1703- 1750 during the Baroque period (Classic fM 2023). Johann Bach was born in Germany in 1685 and comes from a long line of musicians. His family was well known for playing the organ in church. Bach began playing the organ and the violin around the age of 3. Bach was a German composer, organist, harpsichordist, violist, and violinist of the Baroque Era (Classic fM). Bach composed music in many baroque genres such as sonatas, concertos, suites, cantatas, and choral works (Classic fM 2023). Toccata and Fugue in D Minor was written as an organ piece in two parts and is known to be used in classic horror films. Toccata and Fugue in D minor has severe emphasis on the instruments within this piece as you can hear the organ at a very high pitch range within the song as well as the strings. The composition of the piece focuses on the emotional highs and lows. Bach incorporated two parts to make up the composition including toccare and fugue, which are were both used in a way to make the audience feel the different emotions the composer expressed in a song. The music displays eerie, high, and harsh notes at the beginning, then moves into a faster more upbeat tempo, which almost seemed happy, then back to the eerie music. Although "Toccata and Fugue in D minor" has been used in many projects where it seems to depict horror or an intense moment, I would not consider it program music, but absolute music since a for sure reason as to why the piece was composed has been discovered.
