John Cage's portrayal of music actually did not surprise me very much. I mean, we were warned that it would be di erent, and I imagined either there would be barely any sound, or the combina on of notes would be pre y out there. What did impress me though was the way he presented himself. The pauses and arm posi ons built up a suspense...and it made me just sit there wai ng to see what he would do next. Each me it appeared as though he would play at least just one note. I personally do not believe this to be music. I nd it more a visual art, like theater. I know this doesn't really go together...but for some reason it reminds me of those jazz poetry readings where the person wears all black and there are very drama c pauses too.
The composer I have chosen is Luciano Berio. He was an Italian composer
who created Sinfonia in 1968. The style that I have chosen is Musical Quota on. In the Sinfonia, the third sec on is based on a work from Mahler. More speci cally, Mahler's Second Symphony. Not only that, but there are also fragments of quoted material from other composers such as Bach, Debussy, Ravel, Schoenberg, and more. This characteris c, of gathering other people's work and making it a musical collage is what puts it into this speci c style. The Musical Quota on style. This aspect sets it apart from other music in prior periods, people wouldn't copy and then play their own thing over it. They would either play it as it is or make their own thing. This is also s Il used today. Similar to how people make new art with older art. There are a bunch of remixes, collabs, and parodies.

As soon as I started listening to the piece, I was entranced as you said. You described it's feeling very well. It is like it entraps you, hypno zes you, and makes you listen un I the very end.
