Rodriguez April 3, 2022 Module 5 - Project 2 - Mountain Top View Ethical Test Ethical Test All Mountain Top View employees should use an ethical test when faced with an ethical dilemma. We can look at an ethical test as a guide to follow to help determine the best decision to provide the company a path to ethical conduct. After reviewing the different types of tests and framework options, the one most appropriate for Mountain Top View is the Public Disclosure Test. When the company first started, we did not have online sales. We had a single neighborhood storefront which gave customers a sense of direct interaction and trust. Let us use an example relatable to recent events. A store employee tested positive for COVID-19 which as we know, can seriously affect customers and others in their proximity. With the Public Disclosure Test in place for employees to follow, they would take a step back to evaluate the impacts hiding the positive case verses disclosing. By the store not being transparent and keeping their doors open, they are potentially putting their patrons at risk for catching and spreading the virus. If they inform customers [and employees] and take the appropriate measures to ensure their safety and wellbeing, while the company may lose a couple days' profit, they will remain in good standing with the community. Now we steer our focus to the ethical dilemma we are currently facing concerning the database breach. Without an ethical test in place, Steve took it upon himself to correct the code, withhold the information from colleagues, and carry on with business as if nothing happened. We must ask ourselves, had the Public Disclosure Test been part of the company's ethical guidelines, would Steve have handled the situation differently? The answer is yes because without having an ethical guideline to reference, Steve did not concern himself with the big picture. The big picture
