Caitlynn Cabral Southern New Hampshire University BUS 206 April 7, 2024 5-2 Project Two Submission Introduction Ethics is the study and application of decisions about deciphering what is good or acceptable in a legal aspect. Ethics is applied both on the individual and business platforms as there are standards everyone is held to within multiple aspects of their lives. Laws and ethics are similar in that laws are a body of norms that society must abide by, while ethics are a set of moral principles that an individual upholds. There are likely to be repercussions in any scenario where there is a breach of the law, ethics, or both. Professionals employed by corporate and retail organizations have the ethical duty to uphold the same standards that has been set by employers. To ensure the greatest potential results for the organization, it is crucial for everyone involved in the business to constantly act ethically and professionally. Analysis The ethical issue that was presented in the scenario at the Mountain Top View's is that Steve neglected to notify the supervisors and clients about the data breach. Steve could have acted more morally had he contacted Clare and Carlos right away rather than resolving the issue on his own and making sure no one else knew about it. Steve did not cause the breach, but his impulsive decision to conceal the information from management may have given the incorrect impression which was that he was responsible for it. In this case, there could have been
legal ramifications for the clients whose personal information was comprised through legal actions including lawsuits of any kind. Key facts that were present in this situation are that Steve acted extremely unethical and could have caused a wide spread of issues from himself, the entire company, and Mountain Top Views customers. Even though, Steve was able to resolve the issue rather quickly, it would have still be a possibility that whoever hacked the company had access to some of the customers' information and then legal hardships would come about for those customers. Recommendation Creating a Data Breach Response Team is something I would advise this organization to do. At my very own job we have this sort of department but in many different shapes and forms. One is more focused on the online aspect just like Steve was here and who he could prevent information getting out, while the other monitors customers who shop and ensure their safety is okay also. This would probably lead to a source that is unbreakable in order to safeguard private data within the organization's system. It would also be helpful for Mountain Top Views to have a theft prevention policy that safeguards confidential and private information within the organization. The corporation, its management, and above all its customers will all benefit from these tools. It is crucial to have these teams and initiatives in place so that clients and staff feel comfortable entering personal data into the organization's database. Conclusion Technology is
