Introduction Ethics and law are the different forms of rules by which humans are expected to behave themselves in the society. Ethics represents internal system of controls and law refers to an external mechanism of control. The corporate social responsibility is protecting the interests of all stakeholders such as employees, customers, suppliers, and the communities in which businesses operate. Corporate social responsibility goes beyond the law's requirements in protecting the environment and contributing to social welfare as it is widely accepted as an obligation of modern business (Ethics Unwrapped, 2022) Analysis The stakeholders include the company, their customers, and the company's employees. The breach of the customer's data is the main ethical and legal issue in this situation. Although the data breach was fixed promptly, the company's responsibility is to keep the customers information secure. A potential implication may include customer's loosing trust in the company, could lead to potential legal action, as well as the company's reputation. The company not informing their customers about the breach could potentially lead to violation of data protection laws and could be seen as a breach of trust. Recommendation If the company has the information that was breached, they should let those affected customers know about the breach as well as what information was compromised. The company should give the customers next steps and what they need to watch for as far as identity theft. To gain the customers trust again they should let them know what steps they have taken to prevent any future breaches and assure that this will not happen again. This is supported by the General Data Protection Regulation and ethical practices that prioritize transparency and honesty. Conclusion The advancement in technology makes it easier for businesses to collect and store data but that also means that it is a lot easier for data breaches to occur as well. It is critical for businesses to carry the most robust data/privacy protection measures to safeguard not only their customers but themselves as a company as well. The company is legally held liable for failing to protect the customers data if a data breach happens. However, ethically it is the company's responsibility to protect their customer's privacy. © 20 23 SIM AN TEL :: CO NFI DE NTI AL YEL LO W Test or Framework A.
