Differentiating Legal and Ethical Issues in Business

Differentiate between Matters of Law and Matters of Ethics in Business. Robert Bostedo SNHU BUS-206 04/06/2024 Differentiate between Matters of Law and Matters of ethics in Business Introduction Ethics in Business entail the principles of moral standards that guide behavior and decision-making with a focus on fairness, straightforwardness, and concern for all stakeholders (Hodges, 2015). Both of them, human rights and laws, should be born naturally from individual and community cultural values and morals instead of rules imposed by authority. Ethics reflects higher moral decrees and law is a minimum action society opts for. Corporate social responsibility (CSR) has other dimensions, such as ethical motivation. The principle of this responsibility is to support responsible businesses in considering such impacts other than profit. CSR is based on ethical principles, which are communicated through transparency and community engagement and facilitate accountability to society; therefore, companies with CSR practices demonstrate their care for social welfare and ethics and, consequently, correct the profit-centeredness of the corporation. Analysis The breach of data at Mountain Top View is a serious ethical and legal problem. Ethically, the organization takes the responsibility to ensure customers' data are secure because customers provide personal information to the company with complete trust in its security (Aldboush & Ferdous, 2023). The leaks of information from this website have an adverse effect on the reputation as well as the consumer connections of the company and are hard to repair. Legally, many jurisdictions, including but not limited to certain countries, have some data protection laws creating the obligation on businesses to ensure that their client's personal information is kept safe, and companies are expected to report these breaches within a given period as these are potential legal violations. Customers' data protection is not merely a matter of fulfilling the legal guidelines but also an ethical core element of business operations. Organizations are required to undertake sound mitigation processes to safeguard against unauthorized access and provide customers with the assurance of protection of confidentiality and integrity on the information held. If they do so well, then they will be at risk of distrusting, weakening the customer's loyalty and even being a subject of the possible legislative liability. Even more, the lack of reporting the breach, as Steve did, only magnifies the ethical error. Transparency is important, but in case of a breach, you should differentiate between the incident and the impact on the basic values of your company and the loss of confidence. Users of a particular business have the right to know that the information they're given must be secure and that they must be on guard from their data being misused. The different stakeholders involved in the situation are Clare as the owner, who is required to maintain the organization's ethical position; Carlos, who is in charge of operations and must see to it that proper compliance and ethical decision-making are done; Steve, who has lied and acted as the violator and the customers, whose being the main victims of the breach and
