Triple Bottom Line Industry Comparison

1-3 Assignment: Triple Bottom Line Industry Comparison Joseph Devine QSO-321 Professor Tim Piniatoglou May 8, 2021 Module One Assignment As we begin to look at the phrase "triple bottom line," we must remember it refers to the belief that companies should commit to focusing as much on social and environmental concerns as they do on profits (Kenton, 2020). We start by exploring the many similarities between integrating the triple bottom line (TBL) groundwork into both the service industry and the manufacturing industry. Both industries can utilize the B Impact Assessment to determine their TBL value. The B Impact Assessments is used to measure categories like workers, environment, community, and governance. The service industry and manufacturing industries have a social responsibility, and the outcome of the TBL value could influence the company's public perception. Typically, a manufacturing company does not sell to the public directly. The results could stop other companies from purchasing because of the poor perception it could be as. As we review the triple bottom line framework and review the differences between the service and manufacturing industry, we will notice a few. The manufacturing industry routinely rates above their counterparts in the service industry on environment and governance and lower in the community and employee categories. The main reason is that a service industry company utilizes employees to provide service while the manufacturing industry produces products using materials. If we look at the environment and governance area of the assessment, manufacturing companies score higher. I feel this is because they must adhere to strict laws. Also, the environment can be impacted as a result of production. In contrast, the service industry does not produce products, so they do not have to follow the rules around manufacturing. As a result, the employees have a vested interest and buy-in since they feel purpose. If both companies utilized an ethical decision-making model as a compass guiding them to positive outcomes, they would consider people, planet, or profit through the triple bottom line framework. Both industries would see how their actions impact the community, employees, or environment. A service business could utilize the strategy of measuring their waste and develop a plan to scale it down. The company could start composting, using reusable items, and recycling The company would show customers that this industry also cares about the environment and want to make a difference In contrast, a manufacturing company develops higher standards and has employees engage in the community. Employee satisfaction is crucial and providing improved wages, better benefits, and appreciation will hopefully help. Finally, if both industries involved in the community do charity work and actively donate to causes, it will show how they want to do good. References: Kenton, W. (October 10, 2020).
