Leadership and Management

I found the results of the personality assessment very interesting. I have never taken one of them because I always figured them to trick you in the sense of switching around how they ask questions. I guess that is why I scored moderately low in the openness part. I think that would be the one element that would hinder me as a leader. I am one of those people that I need to see it to believe it and I am always skeptical about what people tell me. I need to work on that. My results for this assessment were very accurate. The only element that I feel was a little off, was Conscientiousness part about being organized. My mom would always refer to me as an "organized mess". I try very hard to be organized but my organizational skills are really a lot different from average people. My desk at work is a mess but it is an "organized mess", I know where everything is and especially if someone touches my stuff. Two elements that I would pick that would impact my leadership style would be sociable and tolerable. I pick these two because if you are not sociable it will hinder your managers in coming to you if they have an issue. You need to be able to talk to your workers and your clients. And to be tolerable because you will come across a lot of workers and clients that you may not agree with and you need to understand not everyone thinks like you. When you have an organization that has a poor leadership, your organization will not succeed. One of the examples I would like to share is a school that I worked for had a poor leader. She lacked faith in her assistant principals. You cannot micromanage people, it does not work. She would always be quick to tell them what they were doing wrong but never gave them the tools so they would be able to correct the wrongs. What I mean by that let them do what you chose them for. There was a reason you chose them to be in that position. Just like parenting - never go against your partner when they are scolding the children, because then the children will not take that parent serious. That was the same thing with my principal, the staff never took her assistant principals seriously, because they new she would go against her assistant principals anyway. So, a good leader should be confident, assertive and be willing to listen to their managers, you picked them for a reason.
